Bonne fête des Meres avec Brazilian Voices - Les Voix du Brésil

(for English, please scroll down to the flag)

drapeauUs1Sunday break ... Mother's Day in France, unlike the rest of the world, happens to be on the last Sunday of the month of May. So, as an homage to my own Mom who was Brazilian, and since Sundays are music days for me (just like every day of the week, BTW) I would like to share an all-women vocal group of a very dear child-hood friend of mine, Loren Oliveira and the group Brazilian Voices.
You can view the video in the post above, by clicking "play".

As adolescents, Loren and I, together with friends, had created a little  group. The day the great Brazilian poet Vinicius de Moraes, passed away the two of us spent the whole night in my garden in Sao Paulo, singing and playing his songs on our guitars. No, this wasn't the 70's :o) but the mid-80's. Ok, I admit  it's a typical adolescent reaction, which is probably a good sign. Looking back I'm surprised the neighbors didn't complain, either. What's interesting is we both followed the paths of our personal legends: she continued with a wonderful and successful signing career and I continued in an artistic career as well, jewelry-making. Two different ways of touching the world. Her group is very successful in Florida and is doing a great job promoting peace and integration through artistic expression ... and warming hearts through good vibrations ... everything I love !

And, since a good thing deserves company, here's an oil painting by artist Cristina Crispin, a very well known Brazilian painter.  I happen to be lucky enough to be her sister ! This Painting is called  "Voz do Brasil" - Brazilian Voice, since our childhood was marked by sparse long-distance telephone calls between Hawaii and Brazil in an era where cell-phones and  internet were part of science fiction and first-generation Star-Trek episodes. This is a portrait of a typical public telephone called "Orelhao" or "Big Ear" on a Brazilian small town side-walk.

Unique women, all making a difference through their own artistic expression, creating connections between peoples and cultures, shortening distances with their hearts.

Have a happy Sunday and happy Mother's Day for those on a French calendar. And for those of you in the US, thinking of you on memorial day.
