Carnaval blog, Edition Speciale Thanksgiving : Gratitude !

GRATITUDE ! I have been living in France since 1987, that's 21 years ! Every now and then someone still comes up to me and asks:
-"What's this "Thanksgiving" thing all about ? Is it some sort of an American Christmas ?"
-"Well, no." And the I go about explaining how there are no gifts, that the only thing we "give" is thanks. We express GRATITUDE, and share that feeling with loved ones. I explain how the pilgrims were so thankful to have found freedom in a new land, food and eventually even maybe a roof, that they were grateful enough to celebrate this with the native indians who welcomed and helped them. Think about it for a minute. These guys had NOTHING. They left everything they had for the unknown. They left family behind, or lost them on the way. There are still modern-day Pilgrims out there.
Ok, although this might be a purely over-simplified elementary-school version, it is still extremely meaningful within American culture, and an excellent example of a yearly expression and celebration of GRATITUDE.
It may sound trite, but I can relate to the Pilgrims for many reasons and on many levels. I think we all can.
In particular to the fact that even when there is apparently little around us to celebrate, there is still an enormous amount of things to be grateful for. I have a very long list I'd like to share with you who may be reading this. Now and then a little devil in my head creeps in and sets a boobie-trap in my list, but my little logo, o:-) , is there to put me back on track.
First, let me say I'm grateful you are here, dear visitor, taking time to spend a moment with me, reading what I might have to say. :o) Here goes ...
Above all I'm grateful for my family. Nothing beats a toothless smile or a hug from a loved one, and what dearly loved ones ! One in particular who has always supported my dreams, steady as a rock! But this is a jewelry blog ...
* I'm grateful for how France welcomed me 21 years ago and has made me feel at home every day to this day.
* I'm so grateful to be able to live my dream daily, doing what I love the most while sharing this with others, making their eyes sparkle.
* I am grateful to have customers who love what I do as much as I
love making it. That some love what I create enough to even collect
it.
* I am grateful for the growing recognition I have received for my hard work here in France and beyond. It tells me I'm on the right track, that hard work pays off, and reminds me there's still so much to learn and accomplish.
* I'm grateful to know enough within my field to share and teach it to others, and to know little enough to continue learning and growing from others.
* I am grateful for the wonderful students I continue to growingly attract, who come from all corners of France and Europe, all the way to my studio, just for a class with me. Each one adds something special to my life.
* I'm grateful for all the wonderful friends and fellow artists I have here and around the world - you know who you are ! and for all the wonderful people I have met since I have hopped onto the metal clay journey bandwagon. Yes, all 99.9% of you purely fine people who put a silver lining to the word "sharing". And, some of you may ask, "what about the other .1% ?" Well, it's smoke ;o) and where there's smoke there's fire, which helps fuse the other 99.9% ! And, voilà ! It's all part of the process.
* I am grateful to those who trust me enough to know that, although I'm late, I have not forgotten and am working on it, overcoming my own challenges on the way, struggling with that little devil. Thank you for understanding and being patient ! I hope you read this - you know who you are ! ;o)
* I am grateful for those who I thought I would have rather not met at the time. They allowed me to learn more about my fellow human being, about being human, and specially about myself, and to position myself and grow into the person I truly am.
* I am grateful to have choices, these and many others, and to always see the water in the glass.
* I am grateful to know that we are all given the gift of creativity, which helps us find creative solutions to everything, once we decide to look at things from a different angle.
* I am grateful for internet ! :o)
* I'm grateful to be able to share these thoughts with you.
I could go on, but this is long enough !
So lastly, I am so grateful that gratitude was voted by the Jewelry Carnival Team as this month's theme ! Partly because it's Thanksgiving and, as you can tell, this is quite an important day, but also because it's an attitude which can be cultivated daily !
I'd like to share a ritual with you. When you wake up in the morning, instead of automatically making a long mental list of all the things you have to do in the day ... STOP !
Wake up, take a deep breath, smile and immediately say to yourself "I'm grateful for /that ..." and finish the sentence. Add to that. If it helps, write down all for which you are grateful. You'll see how many wonderful things fill your life, starting your day with wonderful energy to face the adventures ahead.
Better yet, do it now ! Don't wait to go to bed ! Wake up now !
It's all about opportunity. Life is one big opportunity.
Note to self: remember the above when the little devil sets another boobie-trap.
So, cheers ! Here's to gratitude ! And here's to Thanksgiving !

Nouveau sur la boutique en ligne - New
Des nouveaux boucles d'oreilles dans ma boutique en ligne. Ils me font penser aux avions acrobates qui font des loopings dans le ciel bleu, laissant derrière eux des traits blancs de fummée comme de la craie, et puis ils redescendent super vite vers le public au sol pour ensuite remmonter dans le ciel. J'adore les avions. Vous les voyez aussi ?

Here are some new earrings in my boutique. These make me think of those acrobat planes that do all those neat figures with loops agains the blue sky, leaving chalk drawings behind, then they come flying straight down towards the crown to end up going up again. I love planes. Can you see them too ?

Nouvel Outil - Nouvelle Bague ! New Tool - New Ring !
"Oh! Linda!!" Ai-je dis quand Linda Kaye-Moses m'a montrée un de ses outils qu'elle vient de créer pour la pâte d'argent. Il me le fallait ! C'est trop cool ! AllCraft Tools and Supply à New York les avait les avait à la 4e Conférence Internationale PMC ce tété. Les "LKM Doming Plates" seront bientôt disponibles au public. Vous pouvez avoir un petit apperçu de ce qu'on peut faire avec sur mon doigt: la bague-broche "Oh! Linda!" avant finition, ou ci-dessous. Mais, j'en ai d'autres qui se préparent ...
Mise à jour le 05/05/09: Les tout derniers modèles du "Linda Kaye-Moses Doming Plates" sont dès à présent disponibles chez leur distributeur Whole Lotta Whimsy et bientôt chez Rio Grande.
"Oh! Linda !!" I said, when Linda Kaye-Moses showed me this tool. It is just one of the few new tools she recently designed for metal clay ! Too cool, tool cool ! I had to have it ! AllCraft Tools and Supply in NY is the distributor, and were selling them at the conference. Linda's Doming Tools will soon be available to the public. You can have an idea of what can be made using it with my "Oh! Linda!" ring/ scarf "clip" above, already on my hand before finishing, or bellow. But I have more in the working ...
Latest update May 5th 2009: The latest version of the various "Linda Kaye-Moses Doming Plates" are now available through the distributor Whole Lotta Whimsy and also soon through Rio Grande.

Ma Boutique sur Dawanda - My Dawanda Shop
Voilà que ça faisait un petit moment que je tournais au tour, car l'idée de faire partie d'une communauté d'échange comme celle-ci me plaisait bien. J'ai donc finalement sauté le pas et créée la boutique "L'Ange Est Là" sur 
, sous leur rubrique "Bijoux(artistes) > Orfèvrerie". Les articles sont différents de ceux que l'on peut trouver dans ma boutique principale en ligne déjà liée à mon site internet. Dawanda est un lieu bien sympathique qui permet aux visiteurs de découvrir tout un monde de créateurs d'objets faits main venant de partout dans le monde !
I've been considering it for a long time since I like the idea of being part of a "community" and the exchange that can arise from it. So
I finally took the jump and created my "L'Ange Est Là" shop on under their their category "Jewelry (artists)>Forging". Le Poinçon: La Législation Concernant les Bijoux en Argent et Pâte d'Argent, Pâte à Métaux Précieux
Voilà qu'on me demande assez régulièrement à propos de la création de bijoux en pâte d'argent et le besoin d'un poinçon. Pour ceux qui ne le savent pas, ou pour ceux qui se le demande encore, j'espère pouvoir le préciser un peu ici car il est indispensable d'être bien informé.
Le titre minimum légal en France pour les bijoux en argent est de 925/1000. La pâte d'argent une fois cuite, c'est à dire fusionné comme il se doit et en respectant les schémas de cuisson, est composée entièrement et uniquement de l'argent pur 999/1000. Cela veux dire qu'elle est au-dessus du taux légal requit en France pour les bijoux réalisés en métal précieux. Par conséquent, elle est soumis aux mêmes réglementations en vigueur que pour l'argent titre 925/1000. Ce dernier est le taux plus fréquemment trouvé dans les magasins et, contrairement à la pâte d'argent, contient un alliage de cuivre. Pour être en règle, il est indispensable que tout bijou en argent, ou contenant de l'argent, destinée à la vente ait un poinçon dit de "maître" ou fabricant en forme de losange registré au préalable au bureau de la Garantie et de la Douane. C'est une démarche administrative qui demande un numéro de SIRET pour remplir la demande. Tout ça, entre autres, est pour protéger le consommateur (et certainement percevoir des taxes :o) ).
En plus du poinçon de fabricant, tout bijou contenant un taux au-dessus de 30 g d'argent ou 3 g d'or doit avoir en plus le poinçon du bureau de la Garantie.

Et oui, ils sont aimables et serviables quand on veux bien faire. Vous pouvez également visiter leur site et vous diriger vers le forum de la Guilde PMC Francophone où les sujet a été abordé plusieurs fois, et en particulier sous "questions légales".
Petite note: Je ne fait pas partie d'un organisme officiel d'état, par conséquent, ce que je vous transmets demande une recherche plus approfondi de la part de chacun pour connaître les détails concernant la législation en vigueur.

Jouons au Chat ! Playing Tag !

Voilà que mon amie Lora vient de "m'attrapper" ! Un grand "merci" je t'en vaudrais ça ;o). Ça fait pas mal de temps que je n'ai pas joué au Chat, bien que peut-être avec les enfants, mais bon. Donc, les règles sont:
1. écrire le titre de tes propres "Memoires" en 6 mots.
2. Le poster sur son blog (youpi!)
3. Mettre un lien avec la personne que t'a attrappée (avec plaisir !)
4. Attrapper 5 autres blogs et mettre leur liens aussi (pas facil, pas sur que j'en connaisse 5 qui écrivent sur leur blog).
Alors ....
"Tout est en Constant Mouvement" - rien n'est jamais écrit sur la pierre pour toujours, il n'y a que le mouvement que est constant, au fur et à mesure que nous évoluons. Découvrir son rythme et bouger dans le mouvement, sans s'arrêter, ça empêche la mousse.

La 4e Conference Internationale PMC (pâte d'argent) aux USA

La 4e Conférence Internationale
PMC Pâte d'Argent aura lieu du 17 au 20 juin 2008 à l'Université de
Purdue, Indiana USA. Elle a lieu tout les 2 ans, et c'est le moment où
toutes les nouveautés sont lancés, avec des seminaires, ateliers avant
et après la conférence, une salle de revendeurs et des expositions.
Cette année la grande nouveauté est le lancement de la Pâte de Bronze ! (J'en parlerais dans un prochain post). L'invité d'honeur est le bijoutier-émailleur Linda Darty, autheur de l'excellent livre "The Art of Enameling - Techniques, Projects and Inspiration" (cliquez sur la photo pour le retrouver en ligne).

The 4th International PMC Conference will take place this year from July 17th thru 20th at the University of Purdue, Indiana, USA. The conference takes place every 2 years and attracts a number of artists from around the world. It is during the conference that new techniques and materials are launched. This year the big excitement is around the launch of Bronze Clay ! I will talk more about it in a future post.
The guest of honor this year is Jeweler and enamelist Linda Darty, author of the excellent book "The Art of Enameling - Techniques, Projects and Inspiration" (click on the photo to find it online).

I will also post information once I get back from the conference, and there will also be information up on the French Guild's forum but also directly on the conference's website where there will be reports on each presentation available for download in the weeks following the end of the conference.
